DR SHANE KENNA (Seaghan Mac Cionnaith), one of Ireland’s brightest young historians, died on 27 February after a brave battle with serious illness. He died just a few days before the 150th anniversary of the Fenian Rising of 1867. Republicanism and Socialism in Ireland: From Wolfe Tone to James Connolly was published last year to mark the centenary of the Easter Rising. Its author, Priscilla Metscher, hails from Belfast Protestant stock and has written and lectured extensively on the politics of James Connolly.
