MICK O'DWYER made the fair point following Wicklow's surprise victory over Kildare last Sunday that had the result been reversed Wicklow would not have been given the opportunity to compete in the qualifiers as they failed to win promotion from Division Four. It's something that will be even more heartily felt by the Antrim management after losing to Cavan. Free article

TRYING TO work out the politics or even an editorial viewpoint held by the Sunday Tribune is like trying to read your teenage brother's mood swings. There is no pattern or method to a personality that has no developed political outlook or philosophy, just a well-meaning world view that passes for that dubious quality, 'common sense', occasionally punctuated by bursts of outraged indignation at perceived slights or wrongs. Interview : Seán Lynch - from Long Kesh to the District Policing Partnership

22 May 2008

FERMANAGH republican SEÁN LYNCH is a former O/C (Officer Commanding) of republican POWs at Long Kesh Prison. Lynch spent several years 'on the run' in the 1980s and survived an assassination attempt in which his comrade, IRA Volunteer Seamus McElwain, was summarily executed by Britain's SAS. He subsequently spent 12 years in prison. Released under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement (GFA) in 1998, Seán Lynch involved himself in Sinn Féin activity in Fermanagh. Now a member of the Fermanagh District Policing Partnership, Lynch speaks to An Phoblacht Editor SEÁN Mac BRÁDAIGH about early political influences, the infamous SAS ambush at Roslea in 1986, his time in Long Kesh, and the need for republicans to adapt to the changing conditions of the struggle. The Mary Nelis Column

IT COULD BE the icon of peace and progress. But it now looks as if the iconic embryo of sport and culture has died in the process of being born, strangled by the faceless men still lurking in the constituency of Ballygobackwards. Free article

Cúlchaint

Le cúpla seachtaine anuas bhí sraith chruinnithe poiblí á reáchtáil i mbailte éagsúla ar fud na tíre faoin téama Plean Straitéiseach 20 Bliain don Ghaeilge. B'é Fiontar, Ollscoil Bhaile Átha Cliath a bhí ag eagrú na gcruinnithe thar cheann an Roinn Gnóthaí Pobail, Tuaithe agus Gaeltachta agus is é a bhí iontu ná éisteachtaí poiblí leis an bhéim curtha ar thuairimí agus caint na ndaoine ón urlár seachas ón ardán. Bhí deis agam freastal ar dhá chruinniú, ceann amháin i nGaillimh agus an oíche dar gcionn, seisiún poiblí eile i Sligeach. Free article
