OPINION : Electoral boundaries and population growth

29 March 2007

Electoral boundary revisions are a dangerous business. A heady mix of political shenanigans, legal niceties and constitutional minefields. Abolition anniversary should focus attention on modern forms of slavery

29 March 2007

Last Sunday, 25 March, marked the bicentenary of the abolition of the British slave trade. It was a further 26 years before Bill for the 'Total Abolition of Colonial Slavery' was passed in 1833. A look at the struggle that led up to the passage of the 1807 legislation demonstrates that it takes courage and tenacity to fight for ideals in face of powerful economic forces. This lesson should not be lost on us today. Free article
