Call for no-fly zone over Gaza after Israeli air raids hit civilians

Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams in Gaza in 2009

THE Free Gaza Movement in Ireland has described Monday evening’s bombing raids on the Gaza Strip by the Israeli Air Force as:

An outrage and an unacceptable act of violence against a civilian population.

At least 19 people, including children, have been wounded, Palestinian emergency workers told the Al Jazeera news network..

Fintan Lane of the Free Gaza Movement in Ireland said:

If this happened anywhere else, there would be calls for a UN no-fly-zone.

After the Israeli air strikes and earlier incursions by Israeli tanks, the Free Gaza Movement in Ireland called for an immediate end to the violence and for an Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

Fintan Lane added:

If the international community is seriously concerned about the people of Gaza, an Israeli withdrawal should be immediately demanded and we should seriously consider the exclusion of Israeli military aircraft from Gazan airspace.

A no-fly zone is needed over Gaza to ensure the safety of the civilian population.

He continued:

The incursion by Israeli tanks and troops is part of the ongoing illegal siege that must end immediately.

The Palestinian people are entitled to live in peace and security without the danger of indiscriminate attacks by the Israeli armed forces.

Fermanagh/South Tyrone Sinn Féin Assembly candidate Seán Lynch has criticised the West for its "blatant hypocrisy" in their outright condemnation and military action against Libya yet silence and inaction about the ongoing attacks on Gaza.

Seán Lynch said:

The attacks against the Palestinian people are nothing short of human rights abuses and war crimes. Where is all the Western condemnation and action now? They weren't long in issuing 'no fly zones' and taking military action in Libya, yet another episode of genocidal massacre has taken place in Gaza and not a word. This is blatant hypocrisy.

Israel need to be stopped in their genocidal campaign against the people of Gaza.

Then again, I suppose Palestine has no oil.
