Take it down from the mast, says MacManus

The Sinn Féin Mayor of Sligo, Sean MacManus, has welcomed the serving of an enforcement order by Sligo County Council on Eircell over their erection of an unauthorised mobile phone mast on the old National school in Strandhill, County Sligo. Eircell, who erected their apparatus on Thursday, 1 February, had neither sought nor received planning permission to carry out this work.

MacManus, who raised this issue over the weekend, said: ``The prompt response by Sligo County Council in serving this enforcement order is to be welcomed. Eircell's contempt for the people of Strandhill, who have made clear their opposition to such a mast in their midst, and their contempt for the entire planning process was made abundantly clear by their actions in this case.''

``Pressure must now be maintained on Eircell to ensure they comply with this order fully as a matter of urgency.

``The health and safety of the residents of Strandhill and other areas must come before the profits of the mobile phone companies.''
