Tóibín jobs plan for Pierce Brosnan to be ‘Jobs Ambassador for Meath’

Sinn Féin's Peadar Tóibín

MEATH WEST Sinn Féin's Cllr Peadar Tóibín, Deputy Mayor of Navan, launched a major new report on commercial development in Meath called Developing Jobs in Meath on the steps of the Dáil last Thursday.

And the Meath West Sinn Féin candidate wants the County Council to ask Navan-born Hollywood film star Pierce Brosnan to become an ‘Ambassador for Meath’ to attract jobs and tourists.

Peadar, who has worked with over 2,000 businesses in his seven years as a management consultant, wrote the detailed 17-page report.

It is based on research undertaken by the Meath West candidate over the last three years and sets out how jobs can be created in the county. A full copy of the document is available on www.peadartoibin.ie.

At the launch of the report, Cllr Tóibín said:

There are vital pieces of infrastructure necessary for Meath to succeed.

1) The railway line;

2) The new Regional Hospital;

3) A greatly increased 3rd-level Out-reach Campus to help up upskill our workforce and to attract Foreign Direct Investment. This can be done with the help of Dundalk IT and the National University of Ireland in Maynooth.

Business Incubation Centres should be set up in a number of towns across the county.

These can be the engine of indigenous growth and help those who have recently lost their jobs in individual towns start new businesses.

Pierce Brosnan

Peadar Tóibín added:

A complete Boyne Walk needs to be developed, one that in international terms could compete with the Camino de Santiago. The banks of the Boyne are littered with hundreds of historical monuments such as Trim Castle, Tara, Slane Castle, Newgrange, the Battle of the Boyne.

A pathway and cycleway needs to be opened up for the full length of the river. This could bring in thousands of tourists who would stay in the county for up to a week.

Peadar ended by urging Meath County Council to formally approach Pierce Brosnan and other celebrities born in or with connections to Meath to be ambassadors to attract jobs and tourism to the area.
