Tralee meeting opposes deportations

A large public meeting in Tralee, County Kerry has heard strong objections to the policy of 26-County Minister John O'Donghue of cooperation with police regimes in Nigeria and Romania.

The meeting heard that both regimes have a poor record in the area of human rights and their treatment of political opponents has included arbitrary arrest, detention, torture, judicial murder and state initiated executions, in violation of the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights.

The meeting totally opposed the deportation of asylum seekers native to these countries and the forced return of asylum seekers generally.
