Anger at Army church invite

Local people from the Bessbrook area are angry that a priest in Bessbrook invited a British Army chaplain to take part in a joint service in the village last Easter Saturday night.

Describing the invite as ``tactless but expected'', one local said it was in the nature of the Catholic Church in the area to ignore the reality of the British presence in the most heavily fortified military base in Western Europe.

Another woman said she was stunned that the parish priest would invite the chaplain of an army that continually terrorises the people of Bessbrook.
