Teeling Monument rededicated

The monument to the Teeling family, who were involved in the United Irish rising in 1798, was rededicated at a ceremony at Poleglass in West Belfast on Sunday 26 September 1999.

Bartholomew Teeling, captured in 1798 after the battle of Ballinamuck, executed and was buried in the Croppies Acre in Dublin. His brother Charles died of ill health due to his harsh imprisonment at the hands of the British.

The original monument was unveiled by Joe Cahill in August 1998 and was damaged on a number of occasions in loyalist attacks.

The roundabout at which the monument stands has been renamed the Teeling Roundabout.
