ESB buy-up of NIE points up need to pursue all-Ireland economy
THE purchase of electricity provider NIE by the ESB is a sensible move and points to the need to pursue a truly all-Ireland economy, Sinn Féin’s Assembly spokesperson on the Economy has said.
Mitchel McLaughlin MLA said:
We live on a small island of only six million people yet we have massive duplication of services and service providers which inevitably costs money to the two economies on this island.
The takeover of NIE by ESB makes sense and I welcome it.
It further cuts down on duplication, it will raise investment in the grid locally and is a perfect example of how economic harmonisation on an all-Ireland basis can work.
The South Antrim MLA said that economic activity, good or bad, inevitably affects economic performance North and South and it makes sense to plan and use resources strategically and holistically on a small island.
