Although the situation in relation to the IRA is deeply worrying, I do not believe that there is sufficient basis to conclude that the IRA ceasefire has broken down.

British Six-County Secretary of State Mo Mowlam on the IRA cessation.

What else could the woman do? Return the situation to war? If war comes it won't be the middle-class unionists and the Daily Telegraph editorial writers who will fight it. It will be working-class, unemployed youngsters from England.

Tim Pat Coogan on the British Minister's statement (Ireland On Sunday, 29 August).

The RUC are not objective observers in this situation. They are political players, working to a security agenda. Flanagan's statement must be viewed in this context.

Sinn Féin policing spokesperson Bairbre De Brún, responding to RUC Chief Constable Ronnie Flanagan's negative assertions about the IRA cessation.

Not one single unionist representative has been arrested despite over 140 illegal protests and parades, yet both myself and Sinn Féin Councillor Seán Hayes have both been charged following a peaceful protest on the Ormeau Road.

Sinn Féin Assembly member Sue Ramsey, after being arrested last Thursday for so-called public order offences in relation to the Aprentice Boys' march on the Ormeau Road.

Every post in the village is covered in flags, not only Union flags but ones stamped UDA and UVF. If you stood long enough they'd put one on you as well. It's very intimidating for anyone who comes to visit this part of the country.

Independent Unionist Councillor Price McConaghy on the intimidation faced by tourists in the village of Bushmills, County Antrim.

Ultimately, it comes down to affordable housing. The lack of affordable and basic accommodation is the fundamental problem. The buck has to stop with the Government. There are solutions. It's down to the Government.

Stuart Kenny, of the housing group Focus Ireland, on a report in Ireland On Sunday (29 August) on homelessness in the 26 Counties.

The church has talked about the social problems being caused by the high price of housing and have made statements on that. With the amount of lands they have available, particularly around Dublin, they should consider assisting the Government and local authorities in any way they can.

26-County Environment Minister Noel Dempsey challenging the church to put their money where their mouths are in relation to the housing crisis. The Government should do the same, Noel.

They were not able to get me so they tried to murder my brother instead - that would be the obvious conclusion. I believe the UDA is behind this and would call on Gary McMichael to say whether they are still on ceasefire or not. Catholics in Larne don't see it.

SDLP Assembly man Danny O'Connor after his brother's home was the target of a loyalist pipe-bomb attack.
