ESB told to take down the mast

Sinn Fein councillors on Monaghan UDC have won unanimous support for their motion calling for the ESB to take down a transmitter which transmits low intensity radiation.

Speaking to AP/RN Owen Smith of the Sinn Fein group on the councill said the transmitter was located in Monaghan town's biggest housing estate close to the town's biggest school, Beechhill Comphrensive.

The motion which was put to the meeting on Monday 15 March withdrew planning permission for the mast won the backing of all parties and called on ESB to remove the mast.

``The local residents committee want this mast removed and if the ESB don't tsake it down the residents aim to take it further'', concluded Smith.s
