By-election case in Dublin High Court full hearing on Monday
SINN FÉIN Senator Pearse Doherty has welcomed the news today that his High Court Case against the Government over the delay in holding the Donegal South-West by-election will get a full hearing on Monday.
Speaking today (Friday) Senator Doherty said:
I welcome the news from the High Court this afternoon that my case will get a full hearing on Monday. It is a pity the Government has let this case go this far and wasted valuable taxpayers’ money defending the indefensible.
The Government could have avoided this case by moving the writ in the Dáil, which they have had ample time to do. And, in fact, just two weeks ago they brazenly voted down a Sinn Féin motion to have the writ for the election moved.
This case is about securing the basic democratic right of representation for the people of my constituency. The Government’s attitude to the case has been arrogant and dismissive.
I look forward to seeing them in court on Monday.
