Pearse Doherty seeks by-election nomination this Sunday, Donegal South-West

Senator Pearse Doherty at the Dáil with Gerry Adams MP and TDs Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin and Martin Ferris

THE Sinn Féin selection convention for the Donegal South-West by-election will take place in the Óstan Loch Altan, Gortahork, this Sunday, 10th October, at 4pm.

Senator Pearse Doherty, currently engaged in a High Court action against the Government over its failure to hold the by-election, will seek the Sinn Féin nomination.

Senator Doherty said:

The Donegal South-West by-election should be held at the earliest opportunity. The Government is running scared of the electorate by refusing to move the writ.
I have taken a case against the Government over this denial of democracy. The only way they can avoid seeing me in court on October 18th is if the writ is moved and passed in the Dáil before then.
Announcements of a by-election at some stage next year will not make this case go away.
I will be putting my name forward for selection this Sunday, October 10th, and am hoping to be endorsed by my Sinn Féin colleagues.
