The more eagle-eyed of our readers (alright, all our readers) noticed that the paper was a little different last week. We decided to print page 12 twice. It was an innovation which we thought might catch on - after all, it cuts down on our work and allows our readers to savour our top-class journalism in double doses.

But judging by the reaction of our very smart readers who spoke to me at the Ard Fheis, we've decided to put the idea on hold.

In fact, if you go to page 28 this week you can see what you missed.

Everyone knows Charlie Bird, RTE's top reporter. Well, not everyone. At the Sinn Féin Ard Fheis last weekend Charlie was late for one important speech and he came running into the main hall in the RDS. The stewards, not knowing who he was, tried to prevent his entry. After all, Charlie could have been a deadly assassin bent on mayhem.

What happened next was straight out of Laurel and Hardy.

Charlie brushed the stewards aside and ran on. The stewards pursued him. One caught up, jumped on his back and wrestled him to the ground. Charlie struggled free and was immediately pinned to the wall.

At this point, Sinn Féin's Director of Publicity, Rita O'Hare ran over and rescued a dishevelled Bird. ``Everyone knows who I am,'' squealed Charlie. ``Don't assume that,'' said one of the stewards who doesn't watch much telly.

This picture has reached me from a catalogue from World Books. Why they are keen to hide the identity of the Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness is a bit of a mystery.

You read it in An Phoblacht first. Two weeks ago we exclusively revealed that John Steele was leaving the NIO. And lo and behold, this week he proved us right. So good we should have printed it twice.
