Hamill family to launch appeal

The family of loyalist murder victim Robert Hamill are to launch an appeal for funds to support a private prosecution against those they think are responsible for Robert's death.

Robert Hamill died on 8 May this year, 12 days after he and three friends were set upon by a loyalist mob in Portadown and savagely beaten.

While the attack was taking place an RUC landrover with a four person crew, parked no more than 20 yards away, did not intervene to stop the attack.

Members of the family said they are not satisfied with the way the RUC or the DPP have investigated and handled the case and say they have no confidence in them.

Meanwhile members of the family met Taoiseach Bertie Ahern during his visit to Belfast on Monday 8 December.

Speaking to the media afterwards Diane explained that the family told Ahern of the ``lack of developments in the case'', and asked him for his support. Ahern has now instructed Foreign minister David Andrews to take the case up with the British.
