Repeal the PTA

A co-ordinated campaign for the `Repeal of the PTA' will be launched next Thursday (7 pm) 27 November at Islington Central Library on the Holloway Road in London.

The public meeting is being held in the wake of the British government's renewal of the Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Bill for another year, with only the removal of the unused internment powers. 90% of all people held under the PTA are Irish, so while there is the IRA cessation and the opportunities it has provided for peace, the security agenda remains.

Confirmed speakers include Jane Winters of the British/Irish rights watch, Kevin Hayes from PTA Research and Welfare, and Kurdish and Basque speakers. MPs Jeremy Corbyn, John McDonnell and Bernie Grant have also been invited by the group, who aim to quash this repressive legislation with support from solicitors, MPs and a wide range of Human Rights and Irish Rights organisations.
