Starry Plough flag presented to Sinn Féin Dublin Ardmhéara by Dublin Council of Trade Unions
James Connolly Heron, great grandson of William’s comrade and leader James Connolly, was at the presentation
IT WAS a proud moment when Dublin Council of Trade Unions (DCTU) presented Sinn Féin Dublin Ardmhéara Mícheál Mac Donncha with a Starry Plough flag to hang in the Mansion House office of the Mayor.
The event marked the centenary of the death on 26 July 1917 of William Partridge, trade unionist, Irish Citizen Army leader, 1916 fighter in St Stephen's Green, and Sinn Féin and Labour Party councillor. He became ill while jailed in England after the Rising and died after his release. (Read more here.)
The flag was presented by veteran DCTU stalwart Sam Nolan in the presence of the DCTU Executive, including President Pat Bolger.
Also present were James Connolly Heron, great grandson of William’s comrade and leader James Connolly, Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh who represents Inchicore, where William lived and worked for many years.
