Cinema: An enjoyable con

Shooting Fish

Shooting Fish is American slang for conning people. That is exactly what Dylan and Jez do for a living. They are two twenty-somethings who want to get rich quick - they even begin by cutting out every coupon and entering every free prize draw they can find.

Dylan is an American charmer while Jez is the technical whiz, with a technical haircut to match and complete with emotional insecurities.

Set in London, this modern Robin Hood film follows these mis-matched pair as they con the rich out of money. Take Mr.Gilzean, who is constantly searching for hi-tech inventions. Dylan and Jez manage to convince him that they have invented a self-sufficient light. Mr.Gilzean's mind is overwhelmed with visions of profits and his greed leads to an agreement to buy one thousand of these lights.

Along comes Georgie who unconsiously manages to pull a few heartstrings. Georgie may be beautiful, intelligent and witty but she also needs money, only more desperately than her new found friends. Georgie has to shoot bigger fish to make sure that she gets the money.

Shooting Fish is a light, funny, feel-good film with an excellent soundtrack including music from The Bluetones and Divine Comedy.
