Ruth Dudley Edwards says BBC forcing nationalists to wear poppy should be legally challenged
SUNDAY INDEPENDENT columnist Ruth Dudley Edwards has supported a call for the BBC policy of forcing staff from the nationalist tradition to wear a Royal British Legion red poppy in honour of the British armed forces to be legally challenged.
Danny Morrison, a former editor of An Phoblacht/Republican News who is now an author and commentator, tweeted on Thursday:
“BBC policy of forcing its staff from the nationalist tradition to wear a poppy on the air is offensive and should be legally challenged.”
Ruth Dudley Edwards tweeted in reply:
“I agree.”
Danny Morrison said in another tweet:
“I have no problem with a poppy being worn voluntarily.”
