Belfast Republican Plot re-dedicated following loyalist attack

Members of the Belfast National Graves Association at the re-dedication ceremony on Saturday

HUNDREDS of republicans including many family members of our patriot dead attended the re-dedication of Belfast's Republican Plot in Milltown Cemetery on Saturday.

Just months after loyalist thugs desecrated the Plot which holds the remains of up 80 Irish Republican Army, Cumann na mBan and Fianna Éireann personnel who died on active service, the re-dedication highlighted the hard work of the Belfast National Graves Association (NGA) to repair and refurbish the burial site.

Many of the families who attended the ceremony expressed their gratitude to the NGA for their commitment to ensure that the plot is a fitting tribute to their loved ones.

In May loyalists attacked the plot spraying sectarian graffiti on the marble proclamation and on a number of the headstones.

The re-dedication which was lead by Fr Raymond Murray, the former chaplain to the women POWs in Armagh prison, while Chairperson of the NGA Joe Austin thanked those whose hard work to re-lay the tiles and walkway improved the look of the plot.
