Orange hall arson attack ‘naked sectarianism’ – Sinn Féin MLA

● Sinn Féin MLA Catherine Seeley

YOUNG REPUBLICANS in Upper Bann have offered to help the clean-up after what Sinn Féin MLA Catherine Seeley condemned as the “sectarian arson attack” carried out on Muckery Orange Hall in Derrytrasna over the weekend.

The Sinn Féin MLA said:

“This attack represents not only an attack on the Orange Hall but an attack on the entire community in Derrytrasna.

“The people who carried out this reprehensible act have nothing to offer the community and do not represent the people of this area in any way.”

Catherine Seeley said she has already been in contact with the Orange lodge secretary on Sunday night to convey her “disgust”.

She added: “I wish to offer our support in whatever way possible.”

Stating that incidents like this should be confronted for what they are – “naked sectarianism” – she concluded:

“I also conveyed an offer made by Ógra Shinn Féin Upper Bann who wish to help with the clean-up and repairs of the hall if possible.

“Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area should contact the PSNI.”
