Mary Lou keeps Dáil pressure on Justice Minister over Garda whistleblower crisis
MARY LOU McDONALD has pressed Tánaiste and Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald in the Dáil on if she has asked Garda Commissioner Nóirín O'Sullivan to make a public statement to help end the ongoing speculation about her legal team's instructions at the O'Higgins Commission and attacks on the integrity of Garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe.
The Sinn Féin deputy leader (pictured) asked the Tánaiste and Justice Minister “again to tell the Dáil” if she had received “clarity” from the Garda Commissioner on the instructions given to legal counsel.
Minister Fitzgerald replied by restating her position that “where it is feasible and legal” she is sure the Garda Commissioner will put further information in the public domain. “I have no doubt that she will do so,” the Fine Gael minister said.
