Martin McGuinness eve-of-poll call to voters in Assembly elections
IN AN EVE-OF-POLL MESSAGE, Martin McGuinness has urged voters to support Sinn Féin in tomorrow's Assembly elections to continue to deliver progress and change.
Speaking before voters go to the polls across the North on Thursday to elect 108 MLAs to the Assembly, McGuinness said this is a key election for republicans.
“This is a hugely important year for republicans as we commemorate the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising,” he said.
“We have also seen significant growth in Sinn Féin across Ireland with 23 TDs and seven senators elected in recent weeks.
“A stronger Sinn Féin team in the Assembly will help us deliver the vision of the 1916 Proclamation so that we do cherish all the children of the nation equally,” he said.
McGuinness, who is standing in his home city Foyle constituency in Derry, said Sinn Féin has delivered for people over the last five years and is seeking a stronger mandate for the next five.
“In the Assembly, Sinn Féin worked hard, creating jobs, reducing unemployment, protecting essential public services and securing more than £500million to support those most in need.
“We need a strong, positive and experienced Sinn Féin team in the Assembly to build on that progress. I am asking you to support Sinn Féin tomorrow so that we can deliver our programme of progressive policies – to grow the economy, deliver prosperity and protect the rights of all our citizens.”
