Former Fine Gael councillor's court apology for defaming Sinn Féin candidate in election campaign
IT TOOK TWO YEARS BUT former Fine Gael Councillor Mick Glynn has given a public apology in Wicklow Circuit Court to Sinn Féin Dáil candidate Councillor John Brady in respect of an unfounded allegation made in a press release issued to the media and repeated on Glynn's website during the early stages of the 2014 local elections.
John Brady has welcomed the public apology. He said that although he is disappointed that the case had to go to court, he accepts the apology in good faith.
“It is a pity that the untruth went unaddressed for two years but now it has been resolved,” John Brady said.
“We are all entitled to our good name and I felt it was very important that I defended mine.”
Counsel for Mick Glynn informed the court on Thursday that the case had been settled and he read out the following apology on behalf of his client:
“I, Mick Glynn of Headlands, Bray, acknowledge that the claim made by me in February 2014 that Councillor John Brady of Kilbride Grove, Bray, staged bogus photographs of a find of hazardous waste in a housing estate in Bray was not true and I apologise for the publication.”
