Election 2016 – Choice is between Fine Gael or Sinn Féin to lead government
THE 2016 General Election campaign is officially underway as Taoiseach Enda Kenny finally dissolved the Dáil, ending weeks of speculation as to the election date. It will be the shortest election campaign in history with voters going to the polls on 26 February.
The most recent opinion poll for the Sunday Business Post shows that the battle is between Fine Gael and Sinn Féin to lead the next government.
Speaking to reporters outside Government Buildings, Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD said his party wants to lead a progressive left-wing government.
The Louth TD called on voters to support Sinn Féin and other parties signed up to the Right2Change principles to break the stranglehold Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil have had on the state since its foundation.
“We're hopeful the people will vote for our party and the Right2Change Government," he said.
“We are committed to ending property tax and water charges. We have a plan for universal health care, social housing and public services.
“This is a choice as to whether you want a society that is fair and equal with decent public services, or more of the same unfairness from Fine Gael and Labour.”
