Unionist threat of violence against Parades Commissioners and their homes, says PSNI

● Masked unionists at Twaddell protest last year against parade restrictions

THE PSNI has told members of the Parades Commission they are under threat from unionists.

It has emerged that unionists based in the Antrim and Mid-Ulster area have warned members of the parades regulating body that they are under imminent threat in the lead up to the Twelfth of July.

And it is being reported that individual Parades Commissioners have been warned that they, or their homes, will be attacked and have been advised to increase their personal security.

In their statement, an unidentified unionist group has warned they will target “every member [of the Parades Commission] at regular intervals.

“If we cannot walk in our areas then they will not be able to live safely in them.”

This development comes just a week after senior members of the Orange Order warned that they would not 'do the police's job' for them in the event of trouble at Orange marches.
