Video – 20,000 march for marriage equality in Belfast
20,000 PEOPLE marched through the streets of Belfast on Saturday calling for civil marriage equality for same-sex couples.
The march in the North came after a historic referendum in the South which saw a clear majority of voters support the extension of marriage rights to same-sex couples.
Sinn Féin Councillor Niall Ó Donnghaille speaking to An Phoblacht at the march said:
"Over a long number of decades Sinn Féin has struggled to achieve equality right across the board, and of course that includes the LGBT community."
Councillor Patrice Hardy told An Phoblacht:
"After the brilliant success of the referendum in the South I think it's time we start moving ahead with marriage equality here in the North,"
