PSNI raids on brothels against people traffickers
BAIRBRE DE BRÚN MEP has welcomed this week's PSNI raids to free women thought to have been trafficked into Ireland and forced to work in brothels. The PSNI raided seven premises in Belfast and rescued a number of people.
The Sinn Féin MEP (right) has called on everyone to play their part in ending "this abhorrent practice".
“Up to 800,000 people are trafficked across borders every year internationally. They are completely exploited and their rights are trampled on. Many vulnerable people are then also open to sexual exploitation.
“I call on anyone who can help identify those at risk or the places where they are being exploited to play their part in ending this abhorrent practice.
“Caithfidh sé a bheith ina phriaracht againn uile daoine soghonta a chosaint. Ni féidir an tsúil a dhúnadh ar an an dá cheist seo - an trádáil daonna agus an dúshaothrú gnéasach – agus ní féidir breathnú orthu mar cheist a bhaineann le háit éigin eile ar an domhan.”
