Greece facing 'silent coup d'état from banks', SYRIZA MEP tells An Phoblacht

Stelios Kouloglou MEP

SYRIZA MEP Stelios Kouloglou, in an exclusive interview with An Phoblacht TV news while on a fact finding delegation visit to North Belfast, said that Greece is facing a silent coup d'état not from tanks, but from banks.

"We need your support for our struggle to remove the debt and to get rid of austerity. Whether it is implemented in Greece or in Ireland, austerity kills," he said.

"We are facing a silent coup d'état which is not made by tanks, but by banks. Even the day after the elections they tried to strangle the Greek economy.

"It is reminiscent of the period of President Allende in Chile in the 1970s, when President Nixon of the USA ordered the CIA to make the 'Chilean economy scream'."
