West Belfast's Paul Maskey ready for Westminster challenges
SITTING MP Paul Maskey has been selected by Sinn Féin to contest this May's Westminster election for the West Belfast constituency.
A packed convention, held in the Felons' Club on the Falls Road on Monday 2 March, endorsed Maskey on his record of hard work and commitment to the republican struggle for unity, independence and equality.
Maskey told the assembled activists that “Sinn Féin has delivered for west Belfast and will continue to deliver for West Belfast” as he praised the support of Sinn Féin Ministers Carál Ní Chuilín (Culture, Arts, Leisure & Sport) and John O'Dowd in Education for their commitment to the constituency.
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD, who was the area's MP before his move to Louth and a poll-topping performance that put him into Leinster House, gave the main address of the evening.
Adams commended Paul Maskey for his endeavours and hard work on behalf of his constituents before he urged the audience – “the people who will make it happen” – to ensure Paul Maskey is elected with an increased majority.
