Video – Sinn Féin National Launch of 1916 commemorative events
SINN FÉIN unveiled its plans to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Rising at an event in Wynn's Hotel in Dublin on Friday.
Among the plans include a 33-week historical exhibition entitled Revolution 1916 in the Ambassador Theatre on O'Connell Street; The Rising 2016: Son et Lumiére - a 3D light and vision show using the facade of the GPO to tell the story of the uprising; special events to remember the women of the revolution and dawn vigils at Kilmainham Jail to mark the execution dates.
There will also be an Irish Citizen Army parade and nationwide Easter commemoration parades. Events in Belfast will also commemorate the life of James Connolly.
Those in attendance at the launch included Sinn Féin representatves; relatives of those who fought in 1916, artists and musicians and international guests including the ambassadors of Cuba, Palestine and South Africa.
The party had earlier severely criticised the Government's plans for the centenary with Gerry Adams describing them as "a bad joke".
