Video – Dublin City councillors boycott Irish Water meeting
A MEETING between Irish Water and city councillors at Dublin City Hall was boycotted by Sinn Féin representatives who condemned the event as an "expensive photo-opportunity".
Sinn Féin are the largest party on Dublin City Council.
Outside of City Hall the councillors held an anti-water charges protest which received huge support from passing motorists and members of the public.
Speaking to An Phoblacht at the protest, Councillor Daithí Doolan said:
"The Irish Water event inside is a propaganda stunt paid for by tax payers' money. It's an expensive photo-op which must be exposed for what it is. It has nothing to do with improving people’s water supply and everything to do with rehabilitating a toxic organisation."
The Ballyfermot/Drimnagh councillor called for those opposed to water charges to take part in the Right2Water demonstration at 1pm on Wednesday 10 December outside the Dáil:
"It's going to be a family-friendly event with music, artists and comedians. We're calling on everybody to come out on 10 December and strike a final blow towards scrapping water charges."
