O'Hagan tragedy

A second tragedy hit the O'Hagan family in Greencastle this week when the youngest son of Paddy and Kathleen O'Hagan died after an accidental fire at his home.

Thomas O'Hagan (4) passed away in the RVH, Belfast, on Tuesday 19 August, despite his father Paddy rescuing his son from the blaze on Monday afternoon.

The family was subjected to a notorious UVF attack in August 1994, when Kathleen, seven months pregnant at the time, was shot and murdered in front of Thomas, who was then just 17 months old.

There have been repeated demands for an independent inquiry into the murder, as there was strong evidence of collusion between the crown forces and the UVF in the killing.

Republicans everywhere have expressed their sympathy with the O'Hagan family.
