Vandalism of soldiers' memorial in Belfast must end, says Sinn Féin councillor
NORTH BELFAST Sinn Féin Councillor Gerry McCabe has repeated his earlier calls for an end to the vandalism of a memorial at White Brae in Ligoneil to three British Army soldiers killed there in 1971 during the conflict.
The North Belfast councillor said this is the third attack on this memorial since June of this year. It has been attacked more than a dozen times.
“It isn’t hard to go up and empty road and put paint on a memorial,” Councillor McCabe said. “It doesn’t take any amount of courage and it doesn’t serve any purpose.
“Memorials – from whatever background – should not be targeted in this way.
“There is no room for this type of vandalism and these attacks must stop.
“The actions of those involved in this are not representative of the people of this community.”
Councillor McCabe has previously called for anyone with information on these “wanton acts of vandalism” to go to the PSNI.
