A pro-Israel vandal defaced Mandate Trade Union's head office on Cavendish Row last week, the union has revealed.

Releasing a still image taken from CCTV at the office, Mandate described the actions of the individual as "completely unacceptable".

"Mandate Trade Union's Head Office, which is more than 200 years-old and is a protected building, was defaced by an Israel supporter last week. The man who wrote 'Support Israel' on one of the old pillars outside of the building was caught on CCTV," the Union said on their Facebook page.

Mandate, which mainly represents retail, bar and administrative workers, has been to the fore in calling on Irish retailers to cease selling Israeli produce, with more than 8,500 people signing their petition.

Many of the union's workers have said they will refuse to handle Israeli produce until the state complies with international law.

"It seems some people take exception to our call's for a fair and just resolution to the ongoing conflict," the union said.
