George Galloway to sue fringe unionist Willie Frazer

RESPECT PARTY MP George Galloway is taking legal action against fringe unionist Willie Frazer over remarks he made during a protest against the Bradford West MP in Belfast at the weekend.

Willie Frazer led a protest against the sold-out 'Saturday Night with George Galloway' event in the Ulster Hall in Belfast which Frazer described as a "terrorist conference".

Frazer's small group of protesters waved unionist, Israeli and English Defence League flags as they heckled and taunted those attending the event and filmed them as they entered the building.

DUP Councillor Ruth Patterson also took part in the protest

In a widely-circulated video clip from the protest, Frazer makes numerous allegations against Galloway, questioning his attitude to violence carried out by extreme groups such as the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and his position on the beheading of civilians.

During the clip – which has been viewed more than 12,000 times on YouTube –  Frazer repeatedly refers to the Member of Parliament as a "tramp" and "scum".

George Galloway has long been a vocal critic of radical Islamic groups such as ISIS. In 2013, he delivered a passionate speech in the British parliament to oppose plans by the British Government to launch air-strikes in support of armed Syrian opposition groups.

During his speech, Galloway spoke out in disgust at the actions of such groups – and the possibility of British military support for them – and described in detail their crimes including beheadings and the ethnic cleansing of minorities.

Describing Frazer's comments as "blatantly crossing the line," Galloway told the Belfast Telegraph:

"My solicitor is dealing with it. Let the law take its course."

Responding to the legal proceedings, Willie Frazer – who last year arrived for a court appearance dressed as radical Muslim cleric Abu Hamza – told supporters on social media:

"I believe in what I say and stand by it . . . Get stuffed Galloway . . . your [sic] terrorist loving scum."
