Stars, unions and shops come out in support of Greyhound workers

WORKERS who have been locked-out of their jobs at Greyhound Recycling and Recovery for over two months after refusing to accept cuts to their wages of up to 35% have received gift vouchers for unionised stores and a €10,000 donation for their support fund to help them pay for groceries, school clothes and other essentials.

On Friday TEEU General Secretary Eamon Devoy contributed €10,000 on behalf of his union to the SIPTU Greyhound Workers' Support Fund while Mandate trade union organised for the workers to receive gift cards for groceries and school clothes.

SIPTU Organiser Henry O'Shea said:

"There is growing support from the trade union movement and beyond for these workers in their struggle to be treated fairly by their employer."

He also thanked Neville Raethorne, the manager of Supervalu's Blackrock store, who made an additional donation to the gift cards for the workers.

"Supervalu is a fully unionised supermarket chain and we encourage all trade union members to shop in union friendly stores," said Henry.

At a concert in support of the Greyhound workers on Saturday, musician Christy Moore praised the workers for the resilience they have shown in their struggle for justice. Blues musician Don Baker also performed at the concert along with singer Eric Fleming.
