Rory McIlroy praises Bill Clinton for Irish Peace Process role
RORY McILROY has publicly praised Bill Clinton for his crucial role in the Irish Peace Process when he was US President.
McIlroy’s great-uncle, Joseph McIlroy, was murdered in a sectarian killing by unionists on 21 November 1972 after he moved into a overwhelmingly Protestant area of east Belfast. The UVF was held to be responsible.
This week, Ewan Murray, writing for Britain’s Guardian newspaper from the USA, said:
“McIlroy provided a superb tribute both to camera and in print towards Bill Clinton.
“The former President of the United States was handed a Distinguished Service award by the PGA of America, with McIlroy leading the plaudits with words of genuine warmth.
“Clinton’s influential role in the Northern Ireland Peace Process, McIlroy insisted, was pivotal to the golfer’s generation being able to fulfill their life objectives in peace.”
Clinton is a keen golfer who has played in Portmarnock in County Dublin for Rory McIlroy’s foundation for kids’ charities.
