The Irish Volunteer - Volume 1 - Number 20
This issue contains veiled references to the near split in the Volunteers when John Redmond insisted that 25 members nominated by his Party be added to the Provisional Committee which had founded the Volunteers. Eight members of the Committee, including Pearse, publicly objected to this and, in a letter to the press (but not carried in this issue), stated their objection but said they were remaining in the interest of unity, urging all Volunteers to do the same. Eamonn Ceannt – also one of the eight objectors – writes about the founding of the movement.
