Video – Basque pro-independence Mayor of Donostia visits Belfast

THE PRO-INDEPENDENCE Mayor of Donostia in the Basque Country, Juan Karlos Izagirre of the Bildu political coalition, visited Belfast on Monday where he met Sinn Féin Councillors Máirtín Ó Muilleoir and Mary McConville.

Accompanied by Mayor's Office Director Gari Mujika Iriondo, moving the Basque Peace Process forward was one of the key issues the Basque delegation discussed.

Speaking to An Phoblacht at Belfast City Hall, Gari Mujika Iriond said:

"It's very important that local government - which is close to the people on the ground -  shows leadership in the building of the peace process. The process cannot be left to those at senior government level."
