Dublin West by-election Sinn Féin candidate is Paul Donnelly

Paul Donnelly, Dublin West

‘Sinn Féin is the leading party on the Left, ahead of both the Labour Party and the Socialist Party’

PAUL DONNELLY will be the Sinn Féin candidate in the Dublin West by-election, anticipated to take place on the same day as the local and European elections in the 26 Counties – May 23rd.

Paul was selected at a candidate convention held in Blanchardstown on Monday evening.

The by-election has been caused by the dramatic resignation of Labour TD Patrick Nulty on March 22nd after he admitted sending inappropriate messages via social media to a 17-year-old girl.

Commenting on his selection to fight for the seat, Sinn Féin's Paul Donnelly said:

“There is a real appetite for change across Dublin West. People are very disillusioned with Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the Labour Party and they are looking for an alternative.”

He said that Sinn Féin activists have been carrying out their own polls in Dublin West over the last number of weeks.

“Our figures, like those published in weekend newspapers, make it clear that Sinn Féin is the leading party on the Left. Our figures also tell us that we are ahead of both the Labour Party and the Socialist Party. To that end, we will vigorously contest this by-election to win.

“These elections will be a referendum on austerity. Voters will have a clear choice between me as the Sinn Féin candidate and those candidates in parties who support policies of austerity.”

He said that the Sinn Féin Dáil team – including Gerry Adams, Mary Lou McDonald, Pearse Doherty and Aengus Ó Snodaigh – are delivering for ordinary people in Leinster House.

“I am asking the voters of Dublin West to strengthen our team even further by electing me to serve as their TD. I’m asking them to vote Sinn Féin.”
