Labour MEP 'trying to hoodwink public' over Dublin Mayor vote
LABOUR PARTY MEP Emer Costello has been accused by rival Sinn Féin candidate Lynn Boylan of “trying to hoodwink the public” by claiming that Labour supports the idea of a directly-elected Mayor of Dublin when four Labour councillors on Fingal County Council this week helped block a people’s referendum on the issue.
Polls indicate that the Labour MEP is struggling to hold her seat.
Speaking in Finglas on Saturday, Sinn Féin's Lynn Boylan said:
“Once again, the Labour Party’s words bear absolutely no relation to their actions. The people of Dublin were let down by Labour councillors and now, just a few days later, Emer Costello is rapidly trying to reclaim lost ground.
“Sinn Féin supported the proposed referendum on whether there should be a directly-elected mayor of Dublin and we will continue to support that concept.
“Emer Costello and her Labour colleagues need to act on important Dublin issues and not simply use them as electioneering tools.”
