Gerry Adams is expected to encourage people to vote Sinn Féin in even greater numbers in May’s European and local elections in opposition to austerity and to revitalise the Peace Process
GERRY ADAMS’S Presidential Address closing the Sinn Féin Ard Fheis on Saturday evening is expected to urge people to vote Sinn Féin in even greater numbers in May’s European and local elections in opposition to austerity and to revitalise the Peace Process towards building a shared future on the basis of equality and respect.
It is anticipated that the Sinn Féin leader and TD for Louth will reiterate Sinn Féin’s ‘positive alternative’ to the austerity policies endorsed by Fine Gael, Labour and Fianna Fáil.
He will renew his appeal for parties of the Left to come together around viable alternative policies to the status quo in the same way the conservative parties and lobbies unite around their issues.
The “toxic culture” of corruption and “golden circles” will also feature as well as Fine Gael/Labour Government failings in episodes such as the Central Remedial Clinic, Rehab, symphysiotomy, the Neary scandal, the Magadalene Laundries, the Bethany Home, and Louise O’Keefe.
Regarding the North, the Sinn Féin leader will address issues of identity and the Orange Order on contentious parades as well as outstanding commitments from international agreements between the parties and the Irish and British governments.
