Solidarity to Basque political prisoners and their families

"We know from our own experience here in Ireland that banning political partners does not work,"

AS thousands take part in a silent vigil in the Basque Country calling for the release and repatriation of Basque political prisoners, Gerry Adams extended his and Sinn Féin's support to Basque prisoners and their families.

The Sinn Féin president also hit out at the decision to ban a major rally which was supposed to take place early on Saturday in Bilbao. 100,000 people were expected to attend under the slogan:

"Human Rights. Resolution. Peace. Basque Prisoners to the Basque Country"

"We know from our own experience here in Ireland that banning peaceful political demonstrations does not work," he told An Phoblacht.
