Aftermath exhibition focuses on legacy of conflict in the North

Featuring photographs, filmed interviews and a sound installation, 'Aftermath' looks at how the war in the north of Ireland affected those from all sides and none

A NEW photographic, film and audio exhibition aims to explore the hidden histories, unresolved antagonisms, and personal hopes and dreams of those affected or displaced by the recent conflict in the north of Ireland.

Those behind the Aftermath exhibition include filmmaker, playwright and former IRA hunger striker Laurence McKeown and artist Anthony Haughey. They have worked closely with victims and survivors of the northern conflict, asylum seekers, refugees and those displaced.Bullet Hole in Wndow -Aftermath Exhibition

Featuring photographs, filmed interviews and a sound installation, the project brings together people directly affected by trauma to share their experiences.

Describing their exhibition, the Aftermath team say:

"After peace agreements have been signed and the military/paramilitary apparatus of hostilities removed often little visible remains in societies as evidence of the conflict that recently took place. But for many who lived through that experience, or had to flee from it, the scars they carry are all too real and ever-present. Regardless of what side they took in the conflict, or none, they now must make sense out of what happened and where they go from here."

Aftermath is currently on display in Dublin's Gallery of Photography and will also move to Newry and Belfast by the end of the year.

The Aftermath exhibition runs until Sunday 10 November at the Gallery of Photography Ireland in Dublin. It will then move to Sean Hollywood Arts Centre in Newry from the 14 to 30 November and finally to Belfast Exposed Gallery from 5 to 20 December. For more information see the Aftermath website
