Video: Sinn Féin launch 'Equality not Elitism - Abolish the Seanad' campaign
Pearse Doherty says the elitism, inequality and discrimination at the core of the Seanad have no place in modern Ireland
SINN FÉIN officially launched its campaign in Dublin on Tuesday to abolish the Seanad.
Pearse Doherty – himself a former senator – said fairness, democracy and equality of citizenship demand that the current Seanad be abolished. He said the elitism, inequality and discrimination at the core of the Seanad have no place in modern Ireland.
Calling on people to vote 'Yes' on 4 October, Doherty said:
"Sinn Féin seeks to build a New Republic on this island based on equality for all citizens. We want to see an end to privilege and elitism, and to the cronyism and influence of vested interests that have so damaged politics in this country."
