‘Free Bradley Manning’ international solidarity event in Galway this Wednesday

‘Bradley Manning should not be going to prison – he should be going to Oslo to receive the Nobel Peace Prize’

A ‘FREE BRADLEY MANNING’ solidarity protest is being held by the Galway Alliance Against War at Lynch’s Castle on Shop Street this Wednesday (21 August) between 12 noon and 2pm.

It is part of a worldwide series of protests coinciding with the sentencing by a US army court martial of Bradley Manning for leaking information to whistleblowing group Wikileaks.

A Galway Alliance Against War spokesperson said:

“Exposing war crimes is not a crime. It is an act of bravery.

“It is not Bradley Manning who should be facing long-term imprisonment but war criminals such as former US President George W Bush and his accomplice, former British PM Tony Blair, for causing the deaths of over a million people in the illegal war in Iraq.

“All Bradley Manning did was expose their criminality. He should not be going to prison – he should be going to Oslo to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for bringing to light the barbarity of war.

“We are asking people to bring along their own placard expressing their solidarity with this young whistleblower. We will also have a petition on hand for people to sign calling for his freedom.”

“This week, throughout the world, people are coming together to call for Bradley Manning to be set free. Galwegians will have a chance to join in this international event on Wednesday. We are asking people to bring along their own placard expressing their solidarity with this young whistleblower. We will also have a petition on hand for people to sign calling for his freedom.”
