Tyrone Volunteers remembered with dignity and pride – Photo gallery

THE annual Tyrone Volunteers’ Day, held this year in the west Tyrone town of Castlederg on Sunday 11 August, was a fitting tribute to those republicans who lost their lives in the course of the conflict.

The centrepiece of the commemoration, the unveiling of a new memorial in the Hillview Park area to republicans from the Castlederg and Aghyaran areas, underscored the respect with which our fallen activists are held.

The memorial garden, constructed by the Castlederg Commemoration Committee, was opened to coincide with the deaths 40 years ago of Volunteers Seamus Harvey and Gerard McGlynn, who died in a premature explosion in August 1973.

This is also why the Tyrone Commemoration Committee opted to hold its Volunteers’ Day commemoration in Castlederg this year.
