New ICTU President is John Douglas of Mandate
‘John Douglas has been a strong advocate for working people, particularly low-paid workers’
MANDATE General Secretary John Douglas’s election as President of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions for the next two years has been welcomed by the Sinn Féin Dáil spokesperson on Workers’ Rights, David Cullinane.
Mandate has won a reputation as an imaginative and campaigning trade union.
“John Douglas has been a strong advocate for working people, particularly low-paid workers,” David Cullinane said.
“He has stood against the failed austerity policies which have caused such hardship for working people.
“No doubt he will be a strong voice for social and economic justice and for the rights workers in his new role as President of ICTU.”
The ICTU conference opened in Belfast on Tuesday with 700 delegates from all over Ireland attending.
